Last night we had a really late night as Vivian had a really late
nap and was wide awake by the time bed time rolled around.
We tried to wear her out by taking her to the small "kiddie" room
they have here in the hotel, but it only seemed to give her more
energy. And while in there it became even more obvious that
Vivian is VERY loud, especially when excited. There is no indoor
voice for her. She's completely different than Tyler. So when we
finally got back to the room and tried to settle down for bed she
was not ready to go down. Everyone else laid down in an
attempt to get her to sleep, but to be honest, I don't even know
when she fell asleep. I probably fell asleep around 11:30 or
midnight to her saying "Mama" over and over again. I woke up
around 2:30 totally confused as to what happened. So there's
my explanation for yesterday's late post.
This morning we needed to be downstairs to meet everyone at
9:30 so around 7:30 we ended up waking up the kids in order to
get breakfast in beforehand. Tyler was none too happy about
that and Vivian seemed slightly out of it, but once we all ate
everything seemed back to normal.
The first place we stopped was the Temple of the Six Banyan
Trees which we had actually visited before when we adopted
Tyler. It was good to see again though and this time it was still
decorated from the Lantern Festival last week. After the temple
Kelly took us over to the pearl market where we were able to buy
good quality pearls for our little girls to give them on their
wedding day. It's something a lot of Chinese adoptive families
do for their daughters. In fact, we ran into another family doing
the same thing we were doing. I picked out 2 strands which they
made into 1 necklace, 2 bracelets and 2 pairs of earrings for us.
There was also another store in the shopping center that sold

Chinese DVDs, including some American children's movies dubbed with Chinese actors. Vivian is
a HUGE fan of this Chinese cartoon whose main character is called Happy Lamb. She walks
around saying See Ya which is the Chinese name of the character a lot so we wanted to get a copy
of the show for her. We also bought a few American movies dubbed into Chinese. Unfortunately, it
seems that the only movies that will work on our DVD player are the Disney movies. Bill is
researching how to "fix" our DVD player in order to make them work. Apparently there are a few
people who have been able to use hack codes to watch foreign DVDs, but you didn't hear that from
me.
After the pearl market Kelly walked us through an outdoor shopping area we realized we had been
through before when we went shopping for clothes after adopting Tyler. It was deja vu for us. As we
were nearing lunch time Kelly took us to a very popular dim sum restaurant to eat. There was a long
wait for dim sum so she decided to bring us upstairs to where the regular menu was available. The
food was awesome. We even had COLD Pepsi with our lunch. The restaurant had partially frozen
the Pepsi in the freezer so there was a good "slush" at the top of the soda. Oh man, I can't tell you
how both our family and the other family just raved over having a cold beverage. Don't get me
wrong, the food was awesome, we ate A LOT, but to have an ice cold drink in China was a rare
treat. It's the little things...
After lunch it was back to the hotel where we decided not to give Vivian a nap in the hopes that she
would be exhausted and fall asleep early. As I write this before 9 pm she is sound asleep. Thank
goodness for small miracles.
We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening in the room as Bill seems to be coming down with a
cold. I feel bad, but I'm laughing at the whole situation just a little bit since on our last trip here I was
the one who was sick. This time I was determined not to get sick and I brought all sorts of vitamins
and other things in order to stay healthy. I should probably be knocking on a huge banyan tree right
now, but I feel pretty good about it. Just 4 more days until we fly home. I will not get sick... I will not
get sick... I will not get sick...
